Lots of people look at Celtic art and think it’s basically just Irish, but the roots of this style of art goes back to ancient times and the Celts were from what is known now as Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. They Celts were known to be around in the Iron Age, so pieces you can find in European museums are really old.
The characteristics of they style include lots of symmetry, which I really love, and it fits in well with tattoos, as you can see in the video on this page. There’s lots of intricate knots, and I’m always impressed with a tat artist that can handle the work because it’s generally pretty intricate.
Some of my favorite designs are bands and rings. I hope that in the future, if I ever get married, that my girl and me will get celtic rings tatted on our fingers for the wedding ring. That way it really will permanent. Besides, I’m not so good with jewelery!
My parents are Irish so I’ve always really dug the style. My mom had a really cool tapestry in the hall in the house I grew up in as a kid and I used to always try and trace the design with my finger.
